Kohler

You can get a solid week of rain or clouds. The answer may not always be a huge battery bank, and sizing a solar system to handle heavy duty power requirements may also be cost prohibitive.

For this we use generators, from Kohler (our favorite) available in 8.5 kw or 11w, it has proven itself in our frigid below zero climate. LP fuel is cold itself, so cold doesn't bother it. Reliable and able to start automatically on command from a stressed battery bank, these generators provide a great backup.

Onan

For the totally renewably minded, consider a generator that runs on Biodiesel, also available from Cummins/Onan and Kubota.

Kubota

We use a Kubota 6.5 low boy diesel on biodiesel we make here at the store for backup power and it smells great!
