Composting Toilets
Nature's way of dealing with waste, or actually declaring there is no such thing...
You can buy a copy of The Humanure Handbook or other great books on the subject here at the store, and construct your own system, but Customer favorite here is BIOLET, with prices ranging between $999.00 for the basic to $1,500.00 for the largest capacity model. We recommend the STANDARD model most of the time. It does use electricity for keeping the liquids under control, but has a crank which works out being less expensive and easier to maintain. We keep the starter mulch in stock for $24.00 a bag.
For large volume uses consider the Phoenix Composting systems. Our friend Tad Montgomery can get them for us and they are a superior composting toilet system.

BioLet Composting Toilets
BioLet Composting Toilets need no water, nor chemicals, and has little discharge from the unit necessitating a connection to a sewer or septic tank. All BioLet's models utilize the natural processes of evaporation and aerobic decomposition and are designed to maintain a warm and humid environment inside the unit, encouraging biological degradation of the waste through the scavenging action of the aerobes.
Within a relatively short period of time, human waste and toilet paper are efficiently transformed into a small amount of fertile compost. The BioLet Basic reduces the volume of the waste entering the toilet by approximately 90%, leaving only 10% of an end-product, which can be recycled back to nature in a safe way, and without polluting the environment.

BioLet Basic
Added to our product line in 1999, the BioLet Basic is designed as the answer to your sanitation needs, where water and electricity are not reliable resources or not available. While we have added automatic mixing to some models, the BioLet Basic has a conveniently located handle that is turned after each use. This easy maintenance insures accurate mixing of the compost and accelerates the microbes' activity. Since the Basic has no electrical components it lacks the ability to evaporate most of the liquids therefore, there is a drain tube required to discharge the liquids to a holding tank or leech bed. The BioLet Basic is the perfect solution for those cabins and cottages "out of the way" or that outbuilding without electrical service. As is true of all BioLet models, the Basic is equipped with a compost cover that hides the material from view and opens automatically when sitting - another feature engineered exclusively by BioLet and with a seat height of only 19.5", the BioLet Basic is very comfortable to use and it has no awkward footstool to hamper children and the elderly. Install a BioLet Basic as a secondary system or as a permanent solution, anywhere!
BioLet Basic is an on-site, self contained, biological toilet, where human waste (feces, urine and toilet paper) are collected, excess liquid drained and solid material is decomposed to a soil-like, hygienically safe product (humus) without producing an unpleasant odor.

Phoenix Residential Models
For large volume uses consider the Phoenix Composting systems. Our friend Tad Montgomery can get them for us and they are a superior composting toilet system.
Phoenix residential packages contain all of the components necessary for an installation except for the wood shavings starter bed for the tank, and the 4-inch (100 mm) rigid vent pipe. Every package includes a Phoenix tank, one toilet with three feet (910 mm) of chute, a complete ventilation system, a manual liquid spray system, a compost bin, rake, and installation and operating instructions.
Capacity. The capacity of the Phoenix system depends on the size of the tank, the temperature of the compost pile, and the frequency and quality of maintenance. Warm tanks have a higher capacity than cold tanks. Our capacity ratings assume a minimum tank room temperature of 65F (18 C), our minimum recommended temperature. Below 55F (13 C), composting is very slow.
The R-199 “cabin model” can be used continuously by two persons.
The R-200 accommodates four full-time users.
The R-201 accommodates eight full-time users.
Model R-200 can be upgraded by adding a midsection.
Model R-199 can be upgraded by adding a midsection and/or a 200 level top.
Advantages of the Phoenix
Odorless. There are no unpleasant smells in the toilet room, tank area, or around the building. Aerobic decomposition and a ventilation fan ensure odorless operation. Finished material is inoffensive.
Waterless. Designed for dry operations. No flushing saves thousands of gallons of water per person.
Rugged. Lasts a lifetime! Thick, tough, insulated crosslinked polyethylene walls, and corrosion resistant fittings.
Capacious. Accommodates families, guests, relatives. Large surge capacity.
Owner-friendly. Easy maintenance is a hallmark of the Phoenix's field proven design. Finished compost is removed just once a year.
Frost-safe. Freezing does not injure the composting process. Use of the Phoenix in cold weather can continue at a lower rate. Composting resumes when the system warms up.
Energy efficient. A 5-watt fan is the only electrical load in residential units.
Chemical-free. Requires only an organic bulking agent such as wood shavings. No Chemicals! Composting uses a wide variety of organisms to decompose wastes naturally.
Clog-proof. Rubber balls, apples, and other items that stop up conventional flush toilets won’t clog the foot-wide chutes connecting the toilet and food waste inlet to the Phoenix composting tank.
Pollution-free. Wastes are totally contained in the Phoenix. No cracks, no leaks. A long, uniform, retention time ensures a stable, biologically benign end product, reduced 80 to 90 percent in volume, that can be easily transported or disposed of on-site.
